Cybernated: Human After All
Cybernation speaks to the computed and systemized control or processes that occur through automatic means.
Cybernated: Human After All is a fusion of digital and analog concepts that might occur in a post-human existence.
Derived from my curiosity of post-human behaviors and technological iterations, this project began as an exploration of uniquely human functions and how artificial intelligence might interpret those functions.

I’m interested in repetition, routine, and methodical care for the body. This project examines how computer software and digital painting can also become a tangible, physical object full of meaning and intention.

The materials I documented were inspired by one of my daily routines: applying and removing makeup.
My collection of used tissues began over the course of 6 months.
Using a digital camera to capture the tissues, I then used digital A.I. software to transform and interpret the documentation, getting a glimpse of how technology and algorithms might interpret the data differently than a human.
I meshed my images with the A.I. images and created a new blended digital painting that interprets both sets of data into one cohesive piece, yet still maintaining the suggestion of the human hand.

The printed painting is the analog version of this piece, reminding viewers that even with expanding and alternative technologies…
…We are human after all.

The accompanying video was designed to focus on digitally produced music, namely dance, techno, and electronic sounds. It is an absurd soundtrack to further emphasize the presence of digital aspects in our daily lives.
